The flame passed by once again It hovered, then it died.. It tried to light upon our flesh but "OFF OFF" then we cried.. Our days of cold, we treasured more Than days of burning light For who could dare to pay such price under dark of night that could take away our blessings that could of us cost.. that could renounce our direst riches for those forsaken lost "We can't!" we cried.. "We can't!" we begged.. "It's just too much to bear!" How could God demand of us that those who fill with care our own grey temples "How can it be "that You'd demand such wrong?" We cry as we parade our riches and sing our royal song "How can You dare ask of us "Or even to command.. "That such horrid blasphemers "should know your loving hand.. "How can love be so unkind? "How be it so unfair..? "That we must weep for those who harm.. "and unto such who dare "to mock and scourge and cry aloud "and stain Your holy ones.. "How could You command such pain.. "be left, nor justice done.. "How could Your love be thus poured out "NO! It cannot BE!" We cry and beg and weep and plead.. as God gazes pitily.. upon the ones who know not of the blessedness of purest love that we all claim from God above is ours and ours alone.. upon the ones who did not taste yet of all His loving grace since all our lives lay in such waste rather than a-burning He cries to us.. He begs to us.. And yet His cries unheard.. beat upon our silken breast.. as on our quilts we've stirred.. only then to cast away as though 'twere just a breeze.. that called away from gentle dreams and beckoned that we'd freeze.. by grasping at our bedding fleece.. that we might truly wake.. and know His tears across the years as His own heart doth break.. for all the scorned and lost of hope.. that we so quickly judge.. daring now to wipe our feet from such disgusting sludge.. who pollute our blessed Earth.. that God has granted us.. "How could I dare to dream such nonsense!" We rumble as we fuss.. and pull our covers tighter still.. upon our weakened breast.. and close our eyes as Life's pure flame.. loses yet more zest.. and waxes cold and colder still.. as we hope for the day that such rabble shall not darken His pure 'blessed' way...
